ARCHITECTURE CULTURE & HISTORY I [ARC60103]
In this module, students are given the chance to survey and investigate on the developement of Western Architecutre from the Ancient Prehistoric architecture to Art Deco architecture focusing on building design influences in consideration of the intellectual, aesthetic, technological, political and economical factors of the related time period.
Project 1: Precedent Study & Analysis
This project derives of both individual and group work and is categorized into three parts: Project 1A, 1B & 1C. Students are required to carry out analysis on the architecutral timeline, elements, influences of a specific building through written analysis, illustrative drawings and verbal presentation.
Project 1A - Online Group Forum Discussion
In groups of 5, we were given a series of question to research on regarding the architectural aspects, technologies and influences of the Palazzo Medici Riccardi of Florence, Italy. Since there were 5 question presented to us, each member of the group was assigned to focus on one question and later on a group discussion to discuss on the information gathered as well as assisting one another with supporting information as well.
This part of the project, we were able to have the opportunity of getting to know the Architecture of different periods which improve ourarchitectural vocabulary through the online discussion and exchanging of information amongst each of our coursemates.

Project 1C: Analysis Presentation Board
In project 1C, the individual task required for me to carry out a more in-depth analysis of the Palazzo Medici Riccardi on an A2 Presentation Board. On the board were included Floor Plans, Elevations, Natural Light Penetration, and Significant Architectural Elements.
After completing this task, I've a gain more understanding of the concept of this building about how it is designed and utilize. I also understand the even in earlier Architecture, there was always a reason, meaning or function to each aspects of the buildings.
Project 1B - Precedent Studies and Comparative Analysis Journal and Report
Proceeding from previous project, 1B introduces an individiual project that requires us to analyze the previously given building (Palazzo Medici Riccardi) and architectural style (Renaissance) and carry out comparative research on the influences that inspire Renaissance Architecture and how it in turn influencce the later architecture style.
The completion of this part of the project presented me with not only a better understanding to the history of Renaissance Architecture but also on Classical, Gothic and Baroque architecture as well.
