ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO III
[ARC60106]
In the third continuation of this module, the studio introduces us to the key component of "Poetics and Experiential Qualities of a place or spaces" which enables us to explore the idea of architectural tectonics and experiences and translating it into a Visitor Interpretive Centre that engages with the spirit of the site.
Project 1: Journey of the 5 Senses
The initial project helps us to explore issues of spatial typologies and poetics through simple design that is made into a walkway space.
In groups of 5, we chose the song "Imagine by John Lennon" and the poem "The Eye by Khalil Gibran" and are tasked to create both a concentric and linear walkway space that reflects the experiential value and poetics of the art pieces.

In 2A, the starting project for the Visitor Interpretive Centre is the site analysis. The selected location is Kuala Sepetang, Perak. The location consist of three sites, the Charcoal Factory, the Fishing Village and the Mangrove Reserve which each team is able to choose. In this site analysis, we are to include study and observation on both macro and micro properties of the selected site.
Project 2: Site Analysis and Conceptual Development

In 2B, focuses on individual development of concept based on personal interpretation of the overall character of the site and translated into subsequent design decisions from the observation of intrinsic materiality and significant characteristics gather from the interpretation.

In Project 3, the design brief calls for an architectural response to design AN INTERPRETIVE CENTRE emphasising a strong engagement and relationship to the site, spatial experiences and programmatic requirements.
The interpretive centre will serve two purposes:
- To provide a physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the culture/history/memory/essence of the site
- To provide accommodation to house and display relevant material and interpretive material for public access and information.
