Project 1A-B: On-site Sketching & Tonal Values
In this project, we are required to do 8 sketches, 4 which will be On-Site Sketches and another 4 will be based on Tonal Values.
For 1A, we are to generate more than 4 sketches then select the best 4 for submission. The sketches were done with several grades of pencil on A4 sketching paper. The sites were based on our preferred choices and required for 2 exterior and 2 interior spaces that reflect on the following:
-
Solids and voids: Form, Skin, Structure
-
Opening/Aperture; openness/enclosure; inside/outside; light/shadow
-
Rhythm in architecture
-
Details
-
Textural effects/Materials
-
Landscape/Setting
-
Scale and proportion
On 1B, we are introduced with different shading techniques and tonal values which are Stippling, Hatching, Cross Hatching, and Scribbling. Given a picture of Barcelona Pavilion, we were to generate sketches of the same image by utilizing the different drawing techniques.
Through this project, I have understand how to communicate a sketch through the understanding of space and also light and shadow through various drawing techniques.
Project 2A: Orthographic projections: plans, sections, elevations
In this first part of second project, we are required to draw orthographic drawings of the Barcelona Pavilion which included:
-
Floor plan
-
Front, back, left & right elevations
-
Two cross-section view
We drafted out the architectural drawing on butter paper in pencil at first, and later translated to inking drawing on A1 tracing papers for the final submission. All drawings are drawn with the scale of 1:100 except for the site plan which is drawn in 1:1000.

Project 2B : Axonometric projection
Axonometric drawing was introduces to us as an excellent method to convey design construction in detail by carefully projecting out the parts of the design in parallel. The drawing is constructed with the measurements obtained through project 2A and simillarly, the drawing was first produces on butter paper with pencil and later on final inking on an A1 tracing paper.

Project 2C : Perspectives
In the last part of the project, we are introduced to perspective drawingas a mode of communication in architecture as perspective is able to properly express the drawing in its actual appearance through the human perspective. Again with the Barcelona Pavilion, we are to construct one exterior using two-point perspective followed by one sectional interior using one point perspective
Through this project, I have learned the technique of creating a perspective using guidelines, stationary points, vanishing points, horizon lines or groundlines or pictures planes. Again, this skill enable us to present our building designs in an even more intuitive manner.
The drawings were first done on butter paper, then enlarged with a photocopier. The enlarged copies were then transferred to an A1 tracing paper using technical pens.

PROJECT 3- "The Hideout" Orthographic & Axonometric Drawings
This assignment is intergrated with our final project of Architectural Design Studio 1. In this assignment, we are required to produce the plans, elevations, sections and an axonometric drawings according to our design for our Hideout space. In this assessment, the line weight, accuracy of drawing, specification of material and other aspects of drawing are considered.
Throughout this assignment, I learned on how to convey my own design by the use of orthographic and axonometric drawing to better illustrate my design. I was also able to explore on different mean of how to express my design intention in a more detail manner through drawing composition and also selection of model material.
