BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING

The module introduces Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a thriving technology and it's implementations in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry of different countries. The incorporation of BIM in AEC industry helps to increase the efficiency in tedious routines thus able to be more focus in their primary role. BIM technology is not limited to just a single product however this module will be solely focus on Revit as a learning platform.

Students are expected to learn and apply the basic functions of Revit to have a hands-on experience on BIM.

Project 1: Infograph Case Study: BIM in Project Management

The starting project looks into the study of the current applications of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC). This project intends to expose students to the various current applications in the AEC industries, through an in-depth review of the literature then translated into a A2 Visual Infographic Board.

The list of topics available are as followed:
- Project Management
- Digital Heritage & Conservation
- Energy Analysis
- Risk Assessment
- Geographical Information System (GIS)
- Virtual Prototyping

Project 2a: Revit 3D Modelling

The first half of project 2 involves the a hands on part of the module whereby students are required to produce a 3D model of an existing building through Revit modelling of the selected architecture design using Architectural Components such as Wall, Roof, Stairs, Floor, Curtain Wall, Doors and Windows.

Establish gridline
level and wall creation
detailing
curtain wall
flooring
families - door
families - louver blade, set, panel
material
louver installation

Project 2b: Revit Documentation

The continuation of project 2, the second half pf this project involves the production of building documentation drawings from the Revit model created in Project 2a, using Revit’s Documentation Components such as Sheets, Titleblock, Sections, Room Tags, Schedule and Phasing.

The documentation requires us to produce the following drawings:
      Plans
      Elevations

      2 Sections

      2 Callouts on sections

      1 Exploded isometric

      Phasing (existing, demolished, new)

 1 Room Schedule showing area tabulation

      Perspective line renderings *(2 exteriors + 2 interiors)
