Project 1: Case Study of Building Services in Public Buildings
In groups of 5-, students are tasked to perform a case study on building services systems applied and installed in multi-storey buildings. Students will be introduced to the common systems that are used in a bigger volume of spaces and a variety of users. This exercise requires students to develop their own understanding in the application of building services to make a building technically functional. This discovery will be useful in their future design studio projects to ensure that their building design proposals are practical and efficient.
The building our group chose was the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). The project allowed us to identify and understand relevant information related to mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning system, mechanical transportation system as well as fire protection systems and understand the functions and purposes of building services systems including the statutory requirements and regulations involved in building designs and its importance towards practicality and public safety.
Final Document
This module introduces the types of building services that are commonly involved in buildings. These services are primarily hot and cold water water supply, sewerage disposal and treatment, drainage and storm water management, electrical supply, active and passive fire protection systems, mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning systems and mechanical transportation systems.
The objective is to create awareness and understanding of the principles of the service systems to that students may be able to adopt, apply and integrate the services requirement in the design stage of their works.
BUILDING SERVICES

This is an individual assignment that is focus on the application of basic building services. Students are tasked to apply building services systems to their design building for Architecture Studio Design Project 2. This exercise requires students to demonstrate their understanding on the application by producing technical drawings incorporating the necessary building services.
During the design process, I was able to identify relevant information related to water and electrical supply, liquid waste disposal, sanitary and rainwater management system that assisted in the planning of building services within the design and construction peripheries. Finally, I was able to propose a suitable systems for my design studio design for a Alternative Education School.
