This the second part of the module prior to the one in semester 2. In this part of the module, we were involved in developing a understanding of structural systems in building technology through analyzing skeletal, solid and surface building structures in term of load and force.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION II
[BLD60703]

Project 1: Temporary Bus Stop

In this project, the aim was to construct a 1:5 scaled model of a temporary bus stop. The project allowed us to experience and experiment on how a skeletal structure reacts under loading through our understanding of skeletal structure and its relevant structural components. In groups of 5, we were able to coordinate ourselves in the construction and also demonstrate both our knowledge and understanding in the construction process, material and technology needed to manipulate skeletal construction to tackle design issues.

Final Model

This project focuses on tensile/membrane and grid shell construction. In groups of two (I did mine alone due to insufficient members), we were given the chance to select a building of our choice and study its building components and its construction. Our understanding of the building are to be reflected through model construction and also in axonometric drawings. Through this project, we were able to learn about the applications of force and stress in a structure and recognize and apply implications of construction system in design.
